Michele de Lucchi has developed with illycaffè a mocha pot that shows the true face of every coffee. By optimising the shape of the machine, they have tried to achieve the best possible coffee characteristics. The result was a mocha pot with a unique shape that avoids the "Stromboli-volcano" effect. This phenomenon causes the coffee to become bitter during the final stage of brewing in the moka pot. The Pulcina is designed so that the coffee preparation is finished before the coffee becomes bitter, ensuring that you can taste the best of all coffee beans in every cup.
The pouring spout resembles the beak of a chicken - hence the name Pulcina, which translates to chicken. The beak is specially shaped for pouring, so no drop of coffee drips next to it.
