Uganda Wugar Kanyenye Cooperative - freshly roasted coffee, min. 50 g

Coffee from Uganda's Kanyenyenye region is produced by farmers from the Kanyenze People's Cooperative, which was founded in the early 2000s to bring together small farmers into a larger group that is more likely to succeed in the coffee market than individual growers on their own. Currently, the group consists of more than 1,700 farmers who support each other in improving the quality of coffee production. The association also works to improve the living standards of the rural poor, thereby contributing to the economic and social development of the region.

Most of the farms in the association are located above 1 800 m above sea level, which gives the coffee plants more time to mature. The coffee from this area is characterised by its strong, complex flavour and high quality. The cherries are picked and sorted by hand and then processed using the washed method. This gives the coffee a complex, full body combining the sweetness of ripe figs and captivating cocoa notes.

Although not typical of Ugandan coffees, this one will surprise you with its intensity. I don't just mean the intensity of the acidity, but the complexity. The acidity dominates at the beginning, when we taste orange and lemon, spilling over into the sweetness of the cookies and a subtle caramel bitterness.
